Evolution Data Centres signs MoU with CREC to develop a green hyperscale-ready data centre in the Philippines, powering ahead with sustainable growth.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Evolution Data Centres and Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) to jointly develop a hyperscale-ready data centre in the Philippines.
The data centre will be powered sustainably, with both companies signing a power purchase agreement (PPA) for up to 100 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy. Both companies suggest the data centre will run solely on renewable energy sources.

Such a deal highlights how rapidly the Philippine data centre market is growing, with its total colocation demand expected to increase by 6.09% (2024-2029) to a market volume of US$811m in 2019, according to Statista.
“The Philippines has an attractive outlook for renewable power growth and an open access power market, which positions it well to be a key beneficiary of the next phase of data centre market growth,” comments Darren Webb, CEO of Evolution Data Centres.
Building hyperscale-ready data centres
This partnership represents a significant milestone in the Philippines’ journey towards sustainable development. It aligns green energy generation with the country’s rapid digital transformation, in line with adopting technologies like AI.
The data centre market within the country is undergoing unprecedented growth, with total colocation expanding at a CAGR of 30% from 2021 to 2027 – with the market expected to exceed 135MW of IT load capacity.
Such growth is developed further by a cloud revolution and the Philippines’ young population being tech-savvy in nature.
“As cloud and AI deployments continue to scale, access to renewable power at scale is becoming a priority,” comments Darren Webb, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Evolution Data Centres. “The Philippines has an attractive outlook for renewable power growth and an open access power market, which positions it well to be a key beneficiary of the next phase of data centre market growth.”
Evolution Data Centres announced its first data centre in the Philippines in March 2023, which was via a partnership with Megawide to develop a 69MW colocation data centre in Cavite, south of Manila, the country’s capital. The company said phase one will feature a 23MW deployment spread over five years inside a four-hectare property.
The Philippines: A growing data centre market
The development between both organisations also highlights Evolution Data Centre’s strong commitment to minimise the carbon intensity of its operations.
CREC is a renewable energy company that develops and operates solar, hydro and wind projects across the Philippines. It is also the sponsor of the Philippine’s first and largest renewable energy REIT, Citicore Energy REIT (CREIT), which has an equivalent gross installed solar generation capacity of 145MW.
Darren adds: “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Citicore to jointly provide our customers with 24/7 baseload renewable power, without reliance on RECs and while reducing our customers’ cost of power substantially below what is available in the open market today”
“Beyond championing the renewable energy transition through our projects and initiatives, we support the country’s holistic sustainable development which includes a rapid digital transformation,” says CREC President and CEO Oliver Tan.
“We are thrilled to partner with Evolution Data Centres, as our shared goals will help realize a First-World Philippines not only through its renewable power systems but also through its digital ones.”
